In the Renaissance big portion of it was in the writing of architectural. This was to prove that design and architecture were proven scientifically based on Greek philosophy, Christian faith and Roman ambitions. Final blog entry

Final blog entry

The five major topics I learn from the presentations from my group mates are; Slipstream and Transrealism, Aliens and alien invasion, Robots and Artificial intelligence, Horror and lastly Anime and Manga. Slip stream and transrealism is not under science fiction, it is a picture translation of a metaphor from literature, and however it is real to the transrealist and surrealist. The audience who look at a transrealist and surrealist work have to stand in the view of them and see it from there perspective of realism. For designers, we are to look at everything from a different perspective view to get different ideas from a simple design. Aliens and alien invasion are under many different genres like horror and science fiction. Aliens and alien invasion was a great topic in making games, because alien invasion occurs when aliens want to take over our home planet, hence battling with the extra-terrestrial armed with alien technology has always been exciting to many gamers who are interested with aliens. Robots and Artificial intelligence are science fiction topics, robots are machines build by man for man’s convenience. Artificial intelligence is the programme in the robot that helps them ‘think’, but only answering these questions with yes or no. It is a science fiction that the Artificial intelligence of the robot, made the robot ‘think’ of what is right and what is wrong, also with emotions too. These science fictional robots take control of itself and do whatever they like instead of taking orders from humans. This topic is very interesting as it brings a little horror to the audience. Horror brings fear to the audience, which let the players experience thrills and excitement from horror, horror is a an interesting genre, there are many horror games today hence to make a fearful horror game, designers have to note every scary elements that not only bring fear to the players but also the thrills. Anime and Manga originated from Japan, it is a drawing style for both animation and comic strips, anime and manga has become a famous drawing style today, hence learning the basic skills of manga drawings it can be very good help for many games.

Gaming has been use for entertainment, to kill time and also to relief stress. In the future, game can be put anywhere in our everyday life, for example, we can put points system in everything we do. Like when we can be given points for recycling every piece of trash, with the points accumulated, the person can be rewarded with a token, this can encourage more people to recycle with the work of gaming in the future. Gaming might be a job too, if a salesman is to interact with other players in a multi online player game, the salesman can ‘play’ in the game to try sell as many product to the online players. Instead of just selling it to customers, with game as a job, it will be an entertainment to work. Nintendo Wii games have controllers which allow the players to move their limbs to interact in the game; gaming has become a great exercise. In the future, gaming can be a cure or treatment for illnesses such as obesity and can even be a cure for Parkinson’s disease. Creativity can too move to another level, for example in the future when going to the movies there are many different endings, like combining gaming with movies. The movie will have many different ending depend on how the audience ‘play’ it, like when it comes to the split ending, the players is to play a short game relating to the movie, depending on the audience, the audience can chose whether how they want the ending to be, but if they were to lose in the game, the ending of the movie will be that the main actor dies. This is just an example of combining creativity, play and games together.

Our creativity game has to do with thinking out of the box, it about combining other elements to obtain a compound that got to make sense. It is basically thinking with to create a interesting idea to solve a set of problems, a way of thinking, a different view of perspective to solve a puzzle or problem. Creativity occur when ideas are generated, it is a process of thinking of different ways to answer a problem. Our creativity game “house of aimus” uses the background and hints to help the players combine these helpful clues to produce a word that allow the player to pass a level to the next. The game is to move from the outside of the house to the inside basement party. For example, the image shows a flight of stairs and a door at the top, with these little clues the player has to think of the ‘password’ to write in to move to the next level, it is clear that the words is to ‘climb stairs’.

Pervasive Games and other speculations on the future of gaming

Pervasive Games and other speculations on the future of gaming, there many different game consoles in the industry, there are PSP, PlayStation, PS2, PS3, Xbox, Nintendo Wii , Nintendo DS and our computer PC. In games, there are different perspectives like first person shooter, third person shooter and so on. When creating a game, the game designers have to consider the players objective, whether there are any conflicts, enough resource to research, the procedure and the making of the rules. Pervasive games are games that have attractive feature that can bond socially. Pervasive games do not have any specific genre; it will involve with our everyday life and should be exciting and fun. For example, putting our life in a role playing game, we will be given a role to play in our life, a goal to win a game, and obstacles to avoid or the player will lose. One of the famous pervasive game is the ‘Amazing Race’, where it is play internationally, a some sort of a treasure hunting game held in anywhere in the world. They are to go around a place to search for a card, where hints of where to search for the next clue, there are also obstacle courses where the players have to finish it in order to continue in the game. Another example is the sing competition; Singapore Idol, where anyone can participate in it, if they are to win, they get to become a singer quick. In the future of gaming, there will be better equipments of gaming technology, we may not use a controller anymore in the future, and we might interact in the game with our limbs and body. Casual games are everywhere today, on “facebook”, cell phones, and etc. Many of the working adults play casual games because of the short duration and the portability. In conclusion, many pervasive games are create to entertain everyone, future gaming and technology will change and improve to as close as a pervasive game, where the player can interact in it.

Games in SF, F & Horror Movies/Media

Games in SF, F & Horror Movies/Media, one of the science fiction games called Mirai Ninja: Keigumo Kinin Gaiden. The game is about this futuristic ninja in the olden pass of Japan, fighting many different enemies and bosses with different skills and shuriken throwing abilities. One of the fictional games is called ‘Maple Story’, which is under the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) genre. It is a fictional game where players chose a job and fight monsters in a fictional fantasy world occupied by mythological creatures like golems, fairies and etc. One of the horror movies in Japan called ‘Juon’ which means a curse mark, it is a series movie with different ghost stories from Japan about the mark of someone death which is known to be a curse. Science fiction, fiction games, horror movie and media have been producing today, there are many great ideas that designers like us can get information and do research on these genres when making either a movie or a game. When researching on science fiction games, we can study how they link the scientific reasoning behind every fictional event. Fictional games are great to do on, since it is just fictional, there is no need for scientific reasoning, everything can be just done in a way where it does not have to do much of researching because the game genre does not base on a real incident, and in short everything in the game is made up. Horror movies and media needs to do research on by watching more horror film and learning from these director on how they brings up these fears just by the sound of the back ground or by the angle of the camera. There are many different techniques in making a horror game scary. Like for our horror game our group have been working on, we put on scary songs in the back ground and also the use of the elements of darkness.
